“Thank you for caring for Corky and Bilbo. You have certainly set the standards of how a veterinary hospital should operate!” Shirley Hildreth, Grass Valley

We Welcome Referring Veterinarians at Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic

Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic works with many fine veterinarians through referrals. All of the specialists available at Loomis Basin and every member of our staff appreciate the confidence that you have in our ability to assist and complement the care that you provide. We want you to know your referred patients will receive excellent care from our staff.

To assist you with making arrangements for one of your pet patients to be seen here, we have a referral case coordinator, Michelle Knott. She has been at Loomis Basin since 1997 and is responsible for coordinating the referral case appointments and communicating with you. Please feel free to discuss your preferences and expectations with her. She may be reached

She will make every effort to keep you fully apprised of the status of your case.

The specialty services available at Loomis Basin strive to meet our clinic’s needs as well as those of the surrounding veterinary community. The excellent internal medicine specialists on staff at Loomis Basin are available to provide you with a full spectrum of internal medicine, critical care, and oncology case coverage six days a week, Monday through Saturday. They are available for consultation on internal medicine cases on Sunday on a rotational basis. We have a large internal medicine procedure and treatment suite, as well as an array of endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment. In 2009, our internal medicine service was one of the first in the country to achieve referral practice accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

We also have cardiology, radiology, behavior, and surgery specialists available who work as independent contractors out of Loomis Basin. Please feel free to call to discuss any imaging or diagnostic needs that your patients have.

Along with Michelle Knott, the specialists and general practitioners welcome the opportunity to assist you in any way that they can.

To begin the process, you may download and complete our Patient Referral Form to be used when referring a patient to us. We have included the AAHA leaflet We’re Referring You to a Specialty Practice that you may share with your clients. We look forward to being of service to you, your clients, and their pets.

Our Pet Care Partnership With You

Please be assured that we make every effort to inform referred clients that you are our client. We are merely an extension of your practice and we will always recommend they return to your hospital for their follow-up care. It is our standard policy, when presented with a case that is identified as a referral, to have the client sign an acknowledgement that they will return to their primary veterinarian when the care is completed by specialists or emergency clinicians. In addition, we have the records of referred patients flagged so that those clients are not offered preventive care and are declined appointments for general care at Loomis Basin.

We are always pleased to hear you are happy with the care your client and patient received here; however, please let us know if we fail to exceed your expectations in any way by contacting our Medical Director, Dr. Marcia Smith. Thank you for your support in the past and for considering us in the future. We look forward to many more years of working closely together.
