“A very nice clinic. I am happy to know you are open 24/7.” Judy Nicklo, Lincoln
Information About Scheduled Pet Surgery
Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic understands you may have questions about your pet’s surgery. Rest assured, our caring and qualified veterinarians and staff are here to answer them.
Regularly scheduled surgeries at Loomis Basin are performed Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Emergency surgeries are done at the time they are needed. Your pet’s veterinarian will make sure you have complete instructions on how to care for your pet before and after surgery.
Pre-Surgery Information for You & Your Pet
Before any surgical procedure, Loomis Basin recommends pre-anesthetic blood tests to determine that your pet is a good candidate for the operation. Specifically, this test screens for liver function and your pet’s likely ability to process anesthesia appropriately. When your pet is scheduled for surgery, please ensure that he or she has had nothing to eat after 8:00 p.m. the night before, but do allow access to water.
If your pet is scheduled for a routine procedure and has been examined within the last 6 months at our hospital, we offer convenient drop-off service. You may bring your pet into the clinic beginning at 7:30 a.m. and check in without meeting with the doctor. If you would be more comfortable, you may set an appointment time to discuss the procedure with the doctor and address any questions you may have. In either case, please expect to sign a Pre-Anesthetic Blood Work and Surgery Release Form.
Information for Pets After Surgery
After your pet comes out of surgery, a dedicated surgical technician assistant will care for and monitor his or her progress during the recovery. The veterinarian or technician will notify you when your pet is out of surgery and will recommend a convenient time for you to return to the clinic to pick up your pet.
When your pet is discharged, a veterinary technician will go over all medication and discharge instructions carefully with you to ensure your pet’s recovery continues at home. Please do not hesitate to ask us if you have any questions at the time of the discharge and feel free to call us any time after you get your pet home to address any specific concerns you may have about medication or the post-surgical home care instructions. We want to ensure your pet makes a full recovery so please be sure to return to the clinic for the follow-up appointments your pet’s veterinarian recommends.
